New Class!! Chest on Stand
Traditionally known as a Cellaret or Sugar Chest
March 24-29
Tuition : $1,500
Pre-requisite: Woodworking Essentials
I’m excited to be offering this new class for 2025!! This is a project that I’m currently working on … photos of the finished piece coming soon! This Chest on stand was traditionally known as a Cellaret. Bourbon was stored in the chest, a tray pulls out to mix/serve drinks, and there is a lower drawer for storage. Today, this piece can have a multitude of uses, including a storage chest (blanket chest on stand), small writing table, and even a tool chest. The chest features a dovetailed box with a hinged lid. The lid is constructed with breadboard ends to keep the board flat while allowing for wood movement. There will be several different options for the interior (depending on your intended use). The Cellaret version will have dividers for bottles, the “blanket chest” version will simply be open on the inside, and the tool chest version will have 2 levels of sliding trays to organize all of your handtools. The sliding trays can also be taken out and put on your bench as you work to gain easy access to your tools. The stand itself has a dovetailed drawer and a pull out tray constructed with breadboard ends like the lid.

Massachusetts Lowboy
New Class!! Philadelphia Lowboy
Lowboys … Massachusetts and Philadelphia
September 14-20
Tuition : $1,500
Pre-requisite: Woodworking Essentials
The Massachusetts Lowboy is as graceful as they come. The fluid line of the legs blend beautifully into the aprons and finish with a carved fan. This has been a student favorite for almost 30 years now. This table is the perfect introduction to carving, shaping a cabriole leg and turning a pad foot, and making lipped drawers.
This year, I have a new offering in our line of dressing tables! This Chippendale, Philadelphia Lowboy/dressing table is one that I scaled from Israel Sacks “The New Fine Points of Furniture” decades ago for a client of mine (Unfortunately, I can’t locate the photo of the piece that I built). In his book, Israel Sack considers this design a “Masterpiece”. This dressing table features 4 Dovetailed Drawers, Carved Claw and Ball Feet, Carved Shells and Vollutes, and Fluted Quarter Columns. For this week, students building the Philadelphia table will focus on completing the front assembly along with all of the joinery and top. After the week is through, there will still be work to do at home. Carving the rear legs and completing the back assembly, fastening the top, and dovetailing the drawers. This class is for the advanced student. I suggest that students have experience in carving and dovetailing drawers before taking on this class. For those that would like more help with this after the class is over, I offer a “Project Completion” class at the end of the year. Here, I’ll guide you through completing the rest of this table.
